All over Germany and travel preparations…

Oktober 30, 2008

Already two weeks have passed since the last entry, geeeeeeze. I have to admit that I have absolutely no feeling for time at the moment, the time or day of the week has simply not been important to me at all during the last weeks. Although, no, I had to catch a few trains, but that’s probably been it. ;-) I’ve been travelling to Berlin to visit my dad and his family, I haven’t seen them for almost 2 years, so my visit has been long overdue. It was extremely nice, my little sister has grown so much, she’s almost my height now at the age of 9! And no, I’m not THAT small…. After that, I spent a day travelling down to Holzkirchen (close to Munich) to visit my uncle and aunt. We went on a couple of hiking trips in the German Alps and explored Munich. I have never really been to that area (at least not in the last 10 years) and I have to admit that – despite all my prejudices towards the Bavarian ;-) – it is pretty nice down there! Just the accent, oh geeeeeeze…..

Hiking up the Brecherspitze!

The last days I’ve been pretty busy with travel preparations (it’s only about 9 weeks to go until I’ll be leaving!): vaccinations, bank stuff, putting together a homeopathic first aid package, looking for flights (I still haven’t booked any…) etc. Oh, and I got my visa for India! It cost a lot of money, but it’s only for one country, so there’s loads more to spend on visas and stuff – sunk costs as the economists would call it. Oh, and by the way, I’ve set the date for my viva (Kolloquium) as well: December 17th. That’s the absolute final step towards my Diplom, but I don’t think it will be much of a problem. But then it’ll be official, yeah!

The next few days I’ll be spending with packing (again, argh) and moving to Bonn, where I’ve already found a nice room to stay – well, that’s what I hope at least, I haven’t met my new flatmates yet, but they seem nice! And then I’ll start my internship on Monday, with a trip to a conference in Stralsund (North Germany) – I’m quite excited about that! :-)

So that’s all the news for now! Hope you’re all doing fine?!

Home sweet home…

Oktober 14, 2008

I’ve been back home in Warburg, Germany for about two weeks now. My mom came over to Portsmouth end of September to pick me and my stuff up and we spent a long day driving it all back to Warburg. It was kind of hard to leave Pompey and I was rather sad sitting on the ferry, waving the white chalk cliffs of Dover goodbye… But we eventually arrived safely back home and were successful in storing everything in the garage where all my other stuff is already waiting to be picked up again some day…

Well, life in Warburg is as it has always been: there is not much going on and wherever you go, you can be sure to meet somebody you know. The weekend after I came back I ended up twice on the Warburg Oktoberwoche, the domestic Oktoberfest, although I did not have any intention to go there at all. But it was nice to catch up with old friends and meet new people as well. Other than that I’ve been spending lots of time with my family, especially with my grannie and my little brother, and went outside to discover the landscapes around Warburg. It’s funny, I’ve been living here 18 years of my life, but I’ve never paid as much attention to the surrounding countryside as I do now. And I have to admit, it’s rather beautiful, I can definitely understand why my mom decided to settle here… ;-)

Anyhow, it’s nice to be back home for a visit, but I couldn’t imagine to stay here for longer. I’m already extremely anxious to get out of here again tomorrow when I’ll start a little trip around Germany – the second one this year, hehe. This time it’ll take me to Berlin and Munich, visiting my dad and his family and my uncle respectively.

Enjoy the last autumn sunshine! :-)
